Travel guides - they tell you more about what sights to see in the Ukraine (and other countries, such as Russia and Poland), as well as hotels and restaurants, and possibly some local customs.

Language books - these include Ukrainian and Russian (Russian is still widely spoken in the Ukraine) dictionaries, phrase books and audio tapes. If you are planning on going to the Ukraine, I suggest that you try to learn at least a few basic words to help you during your trip.
